Amazing Alex: School- Middle School Survival Guide

"When you're sad, just remember that you don't look like what you did in 6th grade."

Hi everyone, it's Alex, again, posting for my second time on J.o.a.l.l.a.p. Again, I am very excited!  I would like to start off with the quote above. I thought it was highly amusing! In sixth grade I looked awful! Anyway, this week the topic we re covering is school. I decided that i would do a Middle School Survival Guide. A lot of my sister's friends read my blog, and they are starting their first year of middle school. I hope you guys like it!

*These tips are in no specific order.*

1. Be Organized
This is the most important rule ever- make sure you are organized; if you're organized you'll be prepared, and your academic career will be a lot more successful. In order to be organized, I like to color code my classes.

Math- Purple
Science- Yellow
Social Studies- Red
CADD (Advanced Computer Class)- Orange
Spanish- Pink
English/Reading/Journalism- Blue
Family Consumer Science- Green

Along with being organized, most schools provide agendas. USE IT. It is so helpful! Track your assignments and due dates. I think it's very important.

2. Participate and Bond
These are teachers. Teachers are resources. If and when you decide to go to college, these are some people whom can give you recommendations. (Good ones.) In eighth grade, I started a fabulous plan that really got me a bond with some of my teachers. I raised my hand and made sure I answered at least one question in each class. This got me a lot closer to my math teacher and my social studies teacher. I couldn't always participate in science, cause I was always behind on the material, but I would talk to him, and he helped me out a bit. Try to set a goal for yourself!

3. Study
I am such a hypocrite when I say this, but I'm going to say it anyway- study. Study a little bit every night. I recently started doing this with science. I'm also going to start with social studies since we recently got some new material that we are starting on. This year, I'm going to have to add Spanish to this list because this is my first year taking a language.

4. Be Involved
This is a mistake I made in seventh grade, I wasn't very involved. join clubs, sports, dances, football games, and other events that your school is responsible. In eighth grade (last year), I started getting involved and I've met more people and it's just an exciting experience overall!

This year, I'm in an important club that my school offers, it helps out the community and what not. I attended a football game, and I'm ready to head to those dances with my besties beside me!

5. Make New Friends
People change. People are going to back stab you and other things. I have experienced this and it was just awful, I didn't really have any other friends to "fall back" on.  In eighth grade, I started jumping to different "groups" in hope for some new friends. I picked up some new ones here and there.

6. The Boyfriend
You're in middle school.... you do not know what love is. Even if you think you do, you don't. Let me just throw that right down. I think it's more than okay to have a boyfriend (as long as you manage your priorities right.)

1. School
2. Family
3. Social Life/Having Fun
4. Boyfriend

I feel as though he should be last on your long list of priorities.

7. Drama
It's going to happen. I'm gonna tell you that right now. On Friday, my sister and I went to a football game and we met up with our friends. I was hanging out with my friends when I noticed my sister was talking to someone who was using the "f word" in every sentence. She was talking about some girl. I took my sister aside and asked what that was all about. She told me that she barely spoke to those people, but you know, so is so.

Try to distance yourself from it. People say they hate drama, but their usually the ones who start it. If you stay away from it, nothing bag can happen.

People who start their own drama, deserve their own karma.

8. Ask Questions
If you don't understand, don't hesitate to ask your teacher a question. I was a little shy in seventh grade, but in eighth grade, I had no problem raising my hand and expressing myself if I had a question or if I was somewhat uncertain on a topic.

You're teacher will love that you care enough to ask questions. (This relates to #2.)

9. Fashion Sense
I'll be honest... in seventh grade, I had no fashion sense. I had no idea what I was doing. I wore sweatpants and hoodies. I wore a lot of baggy clothes.

I recommend for a daily outfit- skinny jeans, flats/boots, and a cute sweater. That's usually how I've been dressing since I made a slight transformation.

10. Makeup
I didn't wear makeup either in seventh grade. I started wearing it in eighth grade, and I was awful at it. Haha. If you're wearing makeup I'd recommend a tinted moisturizer, concealer, blush, mascara, and a little bit of lipgloss.

If you want to wear eyeshadow, although I wouldn't recommend it for school, you can check out my "Back To School Makeup" look. Click here.

11. Manage Your Time
Weekends! When you have weekends you should manage your time wisely. I spend most of it with my friends, blogging, and working on homework.

Saturday-
Blogging
Soccer
Friends
Homework

Sunday-
Homework
Blogger
Friends

That's usually how it lays out.

12. Be Yourself
Just be yourself. Don't bully. Be nice. Be kind. Be respectful. That whole thing. Just be yourself and enjoy your years in middle school. Capture those memories and those precious moments.

13. Read Our Blogs
We have seven bloggers on this blog, including myself. We're all here for you. If you wanna contact us, we all have emails on our main blogs with a "Contact Me" tab. Just go on there and email one of us. I would be more than happy to talk to you.

If you have any issues, don't be shy, or if you're just looking for a chat.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed my Middle School Survival Guide. I had so much fun writing about it. It was fun to look back on my past years in middle school. This is my last year in the middle school. The best of luck to you all in school!

Alex
