Amazing Alex: Confidence

"To those who said I can't do it, well, watch me."

In my opinion, I think everyone struggles with this concept. Confidence is something I wish I had more of. Throughout my academic career I've been put down so many times. I could go on and on about names that I've been called- fat, ugly, a lesbian, a slut, etc.

It was really hard to talk to my parents about it, just because I wasn't comfortable. Anyway, a quote that my dad has shared with me so many times, has touched me heart- "Others put others down to make themselves feel better," or,  "those who try to pull you down are already beneath you." He's a man full of wise words, that's one of things I love about it.

I thought I could try a different angle on this topic. We have flaws- all of us. A lot of them. I thought I could tell you some of my perfect imperfections; maybe some of you guys can relate.

(1) Imperfection: My weight. I'm pear shaped and I can't stand having these thighs that are not proportional to my upper body. Although, my weight may be average for my height and weight, I can't help but wish my legs were like the models' on the runway.

(1) Perfection: I've read a lot of fashion blogs and tips for being pear shaped. being pear shaped means that I can wear really cute tops! Wearing pattern filled tops draws the eye up, so it balances out my body easier.

(2) Imperfection: I'm not sure how many of you guys know, but I have terrible eye sight. I absolutely hate wearing glasses. I've tried contacts, but I cannot touch my eye (no matter how many times I try.)

(2) Perfection: "Glasses make the woman," that's what I've always been told. In someways, glasses can be good. They make my eyes bigger... which can be seen in a good way. I absolutely love my eye color. I can do different eye makeup looks that people without glasses can't pull off as easily.

(3) Imperfection: My skin is awful. I have really bad acne and it gets really oily throughout the day.

(3) Perfection: There's not really a "good" in this, but I wanted to point this one out because it is one of my biggest insecurities.

Hopefully some of you guys can relate to some of my flaws. We're all made up of flaws and other beautiful things; I think that's what makes us so confident, knowing our flaws. We can only get better.

One of my favorite song that relates to this topic is "Release You" by Megan and Liz. One of the main reason our confidence fades is because of other people that want to bring us down. Sometimes we just have to release them- that's the message this song delivers. I love it so much.

There are a lot of songs like this, so I'm sure you'll find one that delivers the same message in a different genre.

I wanted to share with you my story and how it relates to the song. My confidence was fading fast when this guy kept pulling me down. He called me ugly and told me I was no good at soccer. As a matter a fact, he still does. He makes me feel worse about myself. He is always the first one to point out my flaws and imperfections.

The main point, is he always breaks me down. I used to try to always impress him and what not. I don't even know why. It was like I was torn, right down the middle. I would cope with it by writing songs and just writing about it. It would make me feel so much better. I would also talk about it with my family. My dad would always give the best advice. It made me feel a lot better.

If you guys are going through anything like that, I hope my story helped. If you need anyone to talk to, I'm always here.

Thanks for reading! Xoxo,

Alex

My Confidence Playlist

Let's face it, it doesn't matter how many times we hear it, see it, or our mom's repeatedly tell us we're beautiful. What is it about being a teenage girl that makes it so much harder to except the true fact that each and everyone of us is perfect? If you've tuned in this week, I'm sure you've seen plenty of posts from the J.O.A.L.L.A.P gals on this so I wont reiterate the things that you've been hearing this week, or maybe even all your life. Instead, I compiled a list of my favorite songs that always give me a confidence boost when i'm feeling my lowest. As the quote says, "Confidence is silent, Insecurities are loud." What if we just blast some music to block out all the insecurity for a sec? Yeah? I think it's a good idea too.

                                      My confidence Playlist

1. I Will Not Bow-Breaking Benjamin
If you ever feel like the world is against you. Dealing with bullies, or words someone has spoken to you just wont leave you alone, this song will remind you that you are strong and nothing can break you.

I will not bow
I will not break
I will shut the world away
I will not fall
I will not fade
I will take your breath away

2.Just The Way you are-Bruno Mars
Okay, quick confession, sometimes I pretend Bruno Mars is singing this song to me. Hashtag don't judge me

When I see your face (face face...)
There's not a thing that I would change
'Cause you're amazing (amazing)Just the way you are (are)

3.Circles-Christina Aguilera
Warning-song has been known to make the shyest girls feel extremely bad as*

Figure-eight on my middle, try to break me but you can just
Spin around in circles on my middle middle finger

4.Best of Me-Christina Aguilera
Can you tell I was completely obsessed with the Lotus album? (Ten points if you can guess what else it inspired. ^_^)

Heartbroken and beaten
Knocked down and mistreated
I will rise undefeated
I will not let you bring me down.

5.Crooked Smile-J.Cole
So this song was like a breath of fresh air. I listen to it whenever I feel like"Gosh I see so many pretty girls, I wish I had  worn makeup today." Or, "Maybe if I change this about myself, I'll be happier  or beautiful, or get more attention." Look, It doesn't freaking matter!
But it's clear that you can't face what's wrong; no need to fix
What God already put his paint brush on; your roommate yelling
"Why you gotta take so long?" What it's like to have a crooked smile

6.Who You Are-Jessie J
This is for whenever you feel like you should change for someone else, or if you have changed for someone else. Please remember that there is nothing wrong with who you are.

But tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
There's nothing wrong with who you are

There are obviously so many incredible songs that you can listen to but please don't think that I'm saying a song is solely whats needed to make you feel better about yourself. Here's the truth that no one can take away, beauty doesn't mean being rail thin, or being attractive to a certain guy you like. Beauty isn't having gorgeous long blonde hair or bouncy dark curls. Despite what the media and everyone tries to make us believe, NONE of these things are the definition of beauty. Instead, these are the definitions

beau·ty

  [byoo-tee]  Show IPA
noun, plural beau·ties.
1.
the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind,whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, soundetc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).
2.
a beautiful person, especially a woman.
3.
a beautiful thing, as a work of art or a building.
4.
Often, beauties. something that is beautiful in nature or in some natural or artificial environment.
5.
an individually pleasing or beautiful quality; gracecharm: a vivid blue area that is the one real beauty ofthe painting.

If you've noticed, there is not one clear definition of beauty telling you what it is, or how to be beautiful. This is because there is no definition of beauty. Beauty is natural and I'm not saying natural as in no makeup, I mean that beautiful seed of radiance that every single human being has inside of them since the moment of your birth. If someone is shallow enough to see your outershell before they can see your natural beauty then obviously, their soul is even uglier than any words they can say to make you feel self conscious.

Be proud of who you are and regret nothing. And on those bad days, just play a little musical confidece to drown out the insecurities.

Aveen ~ Confidence & My 17th Birthday!

Hey Everyone!

Heheheheh, just like to tell you all that today, Thursday 26th September is my 17th birthday, just thought you'd like to know ;)

So this weeks theme is about ''Confidence'' this can be interpreted in may different ways as shown by all of us who have posted so far. I have a lot of feelings towards areas of confidence and I would like to talk to all you lovely people about confidence.

So I'm writing this post in a free class today (Wednesday) and I'm going to be writing about confidence! (exasperated joy) I have a free double class of business and we were allowed on the school computers, a rarity. I have an Irish test later on which I should probably be studying for, but priorities. (It actually turned out okay, I wrote a lot more than I expected)

So confidence, let's be honest, I sadly, have literally none. I think the amount of confidence we have depends on our self-belief and also our past, which it shouldn't be about. When you've been bullied and harassed for long amount of time, you do begin to doubt yourself and your capabilities. I had a bad few years in school due to my peers and this resulted in a lack of confidence in me. To this day, the day before my 17th birthday, (I'll be posting this on my birthday, Thursday September 26th)I'm still plagued with self doubt, fear and anxiety.

However my confidence is slowly improving, it's in the small acts of life that we require the most bravery, that decision to stick out and make a good decision to help others really and truly does boost your confidence level. I mean, I can stand in front of a crowd of people and deliver speeches, which I have done in the past, but I can barely say ''here'' when the teacher calls my name on the roll call, my voice chokes up with nerves about how I will sound and what people will think of me and my voice.  Being in the biggest school in Ireland doesn't really help with confidence and anxiety, there's hundreds of people to look, stare and judge you, which, even though it's my fifth year in school, is quite intimidating and causes me some anxiety. I don't really have any tips for being confident to be honest, when I'm on a stage delivering a speech or talking in my YouTube videos, I nearly adopt an entirely new and unique persona. Being on the Internet and having a little presence here has really helped though. I know some people in school try make jokes of my blog and YouTube, I'm trying (and not failing) to not care, its their opinion and even if it's about me, I don't care any more.

I mean their words, sure they hurt a little on the inside, but they can't stab me, kill me or poison me, not literally. But if I let their words do that to me theoretically, I stand no chance of survival in this world. We all get hurt in this world and even though we don't have a choice in who hurts us, we have a say in how we react to that, and if we CHOOSE to be hurt by their comments. I've decided to not let myself be hurt, and that I hope is the beginning of having possibly true confidence if such a thing exists.

I know we all have our down days, and that's okay.  Nobody is perfect, we need to learn not how to be fearless, but how to keep our fears under control (fears of a lack of confidence and so much more) That is living an examined life, expanding our wealth of knowledge, questioning and never being in a state of existence on this planet. Just because someone doesn't like you, it doesn't mean you should hide in a shell and live in silence to please them,. Do what makes you happy and above all, stay strong and happy. Don't let those people get you down.

You are worth so much more than what you think. I know it's hard to believe when you're full of inner turmoil and their words (and your mind) fuelling your despair, I've been there myself far too many times. But you can be cured, you can be fixed, you may be broken, but you can always mend yourself. The scars may remain, but you are stronger than any obstacle you will face. You have to believe in yourself and all that you are. We are as indestructible as we believe ourselves to be. Believe that you are unbreakable and you will be.

So that's my view on confidence!
'Til we meet again, (next week!)

I struggle with confidence - Ony

"You can do it! " - Rob Schneider

As the title says, Confidence is something i struggle with on a daily basis. Some people have confidence issues where they need to be lifted up, and then there's some who have a sky-rocketing ego, defying gravity, that blatantly need to be brought down. I know some people can argue and say they dont have an issue with confidence, and they're simply in the middle. But how i look at that is there's times where there is a voice in your head telling you No, and then times when you wake up to a shining sun and feel incredible. Whatever it is to you, I want to help you and myself out with how to handle that pessimistic wretch in the back of your mind :)

So it's safe to say it's

(If you have been following my blog ; for quite a while you have had to seen a D.I.Y post i love doing them but have seriously havent done a crafty project in forever so I'm essssssiiiittttteeeeed!)

You Will Need :

Paper! - This does not need to ne fancy large paper. No, just simply something you can carry around, fold up, hide in your bra. (What? Your telling my you dont keep loose article of paper in your bra? (Not like that :p ) )

Markers! - Permanent, just something dark that will stand out bold, and where you can make scriggly lines whatever else you may need like,

Pens!

Crayons!

So you get it, just a bit of handy supplies for a quick drawing session perhaps?

So usually in my D.I.Y posts this is where I'd give you a bunch of steps, but no this is more like a free for all. The point of the paper is to contradict every harsh thing said or have been done to you before.

I've been called fat. So i write down the word fat in a random part on the paper but then i
want you to cross that word out and next to it put a saying, song lyric, qoute something that says your not fat. And i want you to say that lyric, quote, saying over and over until you believe or everytime someone calls you fat.

So you can go ahead and fill up the paper, with a bunch of other things that have been said in the past or wait for further incidents :/
Now go ahead stuff that in your backpack, purse, pocket bra somewhere you can be able to always add to your paper.

That's all, and i hope you try this quick D.I.Y out! See you later!

Smiley Face,
Ony

Confidence

Confidence. What does it mean to you?

To me it's the ability or the belief to believe in yourself to accomplish any task, no matter the odds, no matter the difficulty, no matter the adversity. The belief that you an accomplish it. Confidence.

Some of you may be saying "Oh great, I don't have that ...". But never fear, Jamie is here!
I'm going to be sharing 5 simple ways to become more confident.

1. Know yourself.
If you don't know yourself, then other people may come along and try to tell you who you are. They know your name not your story.

Be honest with who you are. There are currently 7 billion people (that's a lot of people!), but there is only one of you. I know this sound corny, but confidence is all about believing in yourself. How can you believe in yourself if you are trying to be someone else? If you're ever asked "If there is anybody that you could be, who would you be?" your answer should always be "myself". Because you're worth it.

2. Don't compare yourself
Don't compare yourself to other people, and don't compare other's to other people. No one likes to be compared, yet we all do it to others, whether it's the occasional gossip or a full-blown bitching session. So many people compare their weaknesses to somebody else's strength, where as other people's weaknesses could actually be your strength. There are only two results that come from comparing. You either become boastful by thinking that you're better than them and letting pride get the better of you, or you end up feeling worthless. Everyone has insecurities, nobody's perfect. So instead of comparing, you should learn from them instead.

3. Feelings.
The world of emotions can be quite a dangerous place, as experienced by those avid readers.

Emotions are a result of our thoughts, so if you think negatively then your obviously going to be sad and gloomy. However, what you think doesn't make it a fact. For example, if you say "I feel like a potato", it doesn't make you a potato.

The thing about confidence is that it can take years and years to build, but only seconds to break. But this is only if you let it. If you think positively and know your real self, you'll be as tough as a rock.

4. Thank those who made you feel worthless.
Those people who said you weren't good enough or doubted you. You are a diamond. If you've ever been to a jewellery store, you'll see that diamonds are always placed on top of black velvet. They do this in order to make the diamond appear more beautiful by contrasting it with a dark colour. Those who doubted you or embarrassed you are like the velvet. They make you shine more brightly, so without them you wouldn't be as amazing as you are.

5. Be yourself.
Should you be afraid of a raised eyebrow? No. You don't need to feel like you should have to change for anyone.

Don't worry if someone doesn't like who you. You're living your life, not theirs.

“Somehow I can't believe that there are any heights that can't be scaled by a man who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarised in four Cs. They are curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable.” - Disney

Confidence

Okay so there isn't really anything to say about confidence that hasn't already been said, but I'm going to share what I have found  helpful for me.

1. Don't be worried that your not confident, most people aren't, they're just as nervous as you. So if your nervous to approach someone just remember that they won't even notice what you say or do because they are usually focusing so much on what they are going to say that they won't be concentrating on what you say.

2. Smile and laugh! If you look like you're happy people assume you are, and will assume you are confident.  It is also important to be able to laugh at yourself if you make mistakes or fall over etc. Have fun and don't take life too seriously.

3.  Know yourself and learn to love yourself. As cheesy as this sounds when you know what you're good at and can embrace it then people will love you for you!

4. Speak confidently. If you pretend you know what you're on about most people will believe you know your stuff. It sounds stupid but if you say something with enough conviction it will make you more comfortable with yourself and your opinions.

5. Finally, don't worry about not being confident most people struggle with confidence issues and as long as you have enough to feel happy with yourself that's fine. There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance

Good luck and have fun

Makeup and Confidence - Phoebs

Hello Beauties!
This week the theme is confidence! As you know, if you read my blog ( www.geekchicnotes.blogspot.co.uk    Just saying ) you know I love beauty and makeup! So what better to talk about on this blog? ;)
I personally have never struggled with confidence issues. Yes, I can come accros shy but not under confident. I love acting , so I believe anyone can act as anyone no matter what their situation coz your acting right? So be yourself but ACT confident.

Anyways , I do not use makeup to cover up my flaws, I use it to enhance my good parts. Like I might have one massive red spot on my skin ( I currently have 3 massive ones... Sigh) but I try and do great eyemakeup or a bright lipstick. I believe you can tell how insecure someone is by their makeup: if they were none they are shy, if they wear a little ( mascara, lipgloss) they are boosting their confidence, if they wear an average amount they are happy in their own skin and if it is caked on they are insecure. Now I might not be right at all, but in some situations I am.

Now you might think this is hypocritical , considering I wear concealer. But there is a difference from concealing the odd spot to having 3 layers of foundation , conceler on every imperfection and bronzer.

What I am trying to say is, be confident ,everyone feels a little bit ( or a lot, but you shouldn't ) insecure about your face. Do what makes you feel good, but trust me, people will judge you if you look too orange or have too much eyeliner on or too thick eyebrows etc. they shouldnt, but thats the society that we live in. But don't judge a book by its cover. Embrace what god gave you.

Final thing. I am posting a pic of  myself with no makeup and what I like about my natural face. On your blog, it would be amazing if you could write a post about confidence and post a pic of you and your makeup free face. Lets get this out there and spread the word. ( I have a feeling no one will do this but whatever. And please do! Then email me when you have : peacockpout123@gmail.com  )
So this is me, makeup free! ( yay it rhymed )
I like:
My eyes
My eyebrows
My nose

I hope you enjoyed the post, and continue the makeup free face thingie!

Amazing Alex: My Room Tour

"I can't clean my room, because I get distracted by the cool stuff I find."

Hi everyone! It's Alex! This week I am posting about my room. I absolutely love my room- it's my place to do my homework, listen to music, blog, be alone, think, etc. It's just my little place to be on my own.

I'm sure most of you watch YouTube videos. Some of my favorite videos on YouTube include room tours. I think they're so much fun and they give me such great ideas for my own room. Enjoy!

My Theme
I really want to go to Paris. It's my dream to live there someday. I wanted to decorate my room so it represented Paris one way or another. I hope you like it.

When you walk into my room, this is the first thing you see- my bed! The comforter is from Bed Bath & Beyond.

I believe this is called a headboard or something of that nature.

My nightstand! I have a lamp, my house phone, a hand cream and a lip balm (from Canada), a box of tissues (it's sniffle season), as well as a phone stand.
I probably should have organized this better, sorry! In this corner, I have my mannequin as well as  some Paris themed boxed with nail polishes, makeup, etc.

This is where I get ready in the morning! Towards the left is most of my makeup, and on the right is my hair products and body sprays that I use often. If I don't use them they're in my closet.

My desk! On the top, I have a ton of pictures with me and my friends. On the shelf below that, I have a picture as well as some random things. On the shelf below that I have a piggy bank, and stuff for my iPad like the keyboard and stylus.  Below that I have sticky notes, my pens and pencil, my laptop, and two important stuffed animals. The one someone special got for me, and the pig is from one of my best friends. It has a not inside of it. Under the whiteboard, I have a binder and two notebooks for my blog. They consist of some of my favorite posts, ideas, etc.

Thank you so much for reading my room tour! I hope you liked it.

Xoxo,

Alex xx :)

Mason's Room - Ony

Hello, Everyone! It's Wednesday, again! So it'sIy day, whoop! Whoop! As you guys may know this week is 'tour' week, so I'm going to go ahead and kill two birds with one stone (why such a violent metaphor? What did the birds do?) By doing a lil writing excersise and blogging :)

Before we start, let me clue you in on who, Mason even is :)
Mason is 1/4 of my main characters  in the fantasy novel
I am currently writing! He is a 17 year old Prince of my mystical land 'Nitallag'

And  the reason I decided to use him for this little writing excersise is because, I honestly have not spent enough time learning who he is as a character, so when I'm using his P.O.V it gets a little tricky. (And all the non-writers stare at me like I'm mental. It's a writers thing :)

This would be his wall design around his suite. I choose this one in particular because it represents his sparks at night :)

X°·X°· I am so bummed out, that i have to end this post right now like this :( If i drafted this in advanced I'd most likely not have this problem, but my tablet is not allowing me to use any more pictures for this post :/ I am sorry, for any of the readers but half of us J.o.a.l.l.a.p including myself will be lacking a post this week. BUT next week will have to be absolutely fantastic! X°·X°·
