My Room- Lemmie

Okay so here are my three favourite bits of my room:

1) So here are my bedside tables with a ton of make-up and beauty products sort of just chucked on there randomly. I use them everyday so never really bother to sort them out, but I love them and I love putting on my make- up in the morning and especially for special occasions.

 2) My wardrobe! I love my wardrobe because I love picking outfits and buying clothes. Its about three quarters t-shirts and I have way way too many. Unfortunately in the cupboard to the right is where all of my dreaded school uniform lives but I like to pretend that bit doesn't exist at the weekend.

3) I love this bit of my room; its got my birdie wall sticker, some cupboards that as you can see are mainly full of crap, and you can just about make out my "goats in trees" calender near the bottom. The cupboard that is open is set into the wall which is why it is such a funny shape and it is actually the space under the stairs, as there are stairs right next to my room.

I hope you guys got to know me a little bit more,

Lemmie xxx

Amazing Alex: School- Middle School Survival Guide

"When you're sad, just remember that you don't look like what you did in 6th grade."

Hi everyone, it's Alex, again, posting for my second time on J.o.a.l.l.a.p. Again, I am very excited!  I would like to start off with the quote above. I thought it was highly amusing! In sixth grade I looked awful! Anyway, this week the topic we re covering is school. I decided that i would do a Middle School Survival Guide. A lot of my sister's friends read my blog, and they are starting their first year of middle school. I hope you guys like it!

*These tips are in no specific order.*

1. Be Organized
This is the most important rule ever- make sure you are organized; if you're organized you'll be prepared, and your academic career will be a lot more successful. In order to be organized, I like to color code my classes.

Math- Purple
Science- Yellow
Social Studies- Red
CADD (Advanced Computer Class)- Orange
Spanish- Pink
English/Reading/Journalism- Blue
Family Consumer Science- Green

Along with being organized, most schools provide agendas. USE IT. It is so helpful! Track your assignments and due dates. I think it's very important.

2. Participate and Bond
These are teachers. Teachers are resources. If and when you decide to go to college, these are some people whom can give you recommendations. (Good ones.) In eighth grade, I started a fabulous plan that really got me a bond with some of my teachers. I raised my hand and made sure I answered at least one question in each class. This got me a lot closer to my math teacher and my social studies teacher. I couldn't always participate in science, cause I was always behind on the material, but I would talk to him, and he helped me out a bit. Try to set a goal for yourself!

3. Study
I am such a hypocrite when I say this, but I'm going to say it anyway- study. Study a little bit every night. I recently started doing this with science. I'm also going to start with social studies since we recently got some new material that we are starting on. This year, I'm going to have to add Spanish to this list because this is my first year taking a language.

4. Be Involved
This is a mistake I made in seventh grade, I wasn't very involved. join clubs, sports, dances, football games, and other events that your school is responsible. In eighth grade (last year), I started getting involved and I've met more people and it's just an exciting experience overall!

This year, I'm in an important club that my school offers, it helps out the community and what not. I attended a football game, and I'm ready to head to those dances with my besties beside me!

5. Make New Friends
People change. People are going to back stab you and other things. I have experienced this and it was just awful, I didn't really have any other friends to "fall back" on.  In eighth grade, I started jumping to different "groups" in hope for some new friends. I picked up some new ones here and there.

6. The Boyfriend
You're in middle school.... you do not know what love is. Even if you think you do, you don't. Let me just throw that right down. I think it's more than okay to have a boyfriend (as long as you manage your priorities right.)

1. School
2. Family
3. Social Life/Having Fun
4. Boyfriend

I feel as though he should be last on your long list of priorities.

7. Drama
It's going to happen. I'm gonna tell you that right now. On Friday, my sister and I went to a football game and we met up with our friends. I was hanging out with my friends when I noticed my sister was talking to someone who was using the "f word" in every sentence. She was talking about some girl. I took my sister aside and asked what that was all about. She told me that she barely spoke to those people, but you know, so is so.

Try to distance yourself from it. People say they hate drama, but their usually the ones who start it. If you stay away from it, nothing bag can happen.

People who start their own drama, deserve their own karma.

8. Ask Questions
If you don't understand, don't hesitate to ask your teacher a question. I was a little shy in seventh grade, but in eighth grade, I had no problem raising my hand and expressing myself if I had a question or if I was somewhat uncertain on a topic.

You're teacher will love that you care enough to ask questions. (This relates to #2.)

9. Fashion Sense
I'll be honest... in seventh grade, I had no fashion sense. I had no idea what I was doing. I wore sweatpants and hoodies. I wore a lot of baggy clothes.

I recommend for a daily outfit- skinny jeans, flats/boots, and a cute sweater. That's usually how I've been dressing since I made a slight transformation.

10. Makeup
I didn't wear makeup either in seventh grade. I started wearing it in eighth grade, and I was awful at it. Haha. If you're wearing makeup I'd recommend a tinted moisturizer, concealer, blush, mascara, and a little bit of lipgloss.

If you want to wear eyeshadow, although I wouldn't recommend it for school, you can check out my "Back To School Makeup" look. Click here.

11. Manage Your Time
Weekends! When you have weekends you should manage your time wisely. I spend most of it with my friends, blogging, and working on homework.

Saturday-
Blogging
Soccer
Friends
Homework

Sunday-
Homework
Blogger
Friends

That's usually how it lays out.

12. Be Yourself
Just be yourself. Don't bully. Be nice. Be kind. Be respectful. That whole thing. Just be yourself and enjoy your years in middle school. Capture those memories and those precious moments.

13. Read Our Blogs
We have seven bloggers on this blog, including myself. We're all here for you. If you wanna contact us, we all have emails on our main blogs with a "Contact Me" tab. Just go on there and email one of us. I would be more than happy to talk to you.

If you have any issues, don't be shy, or if you're just looking for a chat.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed my Middle School Survival Guide. I had so much fun writing about it. It was fun to look back on my past years in middle school. This is my last year in the middle school. The best of luck to you all in school!

Xoxo,

Alex

A reason to graduate high school and go to college(Leah)

Sigh, school...It's gives me a migraine. When I find out that we'd be writing about school this week I was literally on the verge of a week of wallowing in writers block and misery. Sometimes I truly hate school and for that I couldn't imagine one entertaining thing I could write about it without being labeled and evil bully for making fun of teachers. Hooooowever, then I was talking to my college aged sister and it hit me like a flying toilet! Sure, school sucks..but I personally can't wait to go to college, and for that, maybe I can suffer two more years.

Aside from the absolute freedom, independence, and Highschool Musical-like random dance numbers(they do that in college, right?)

There are special course that you can choose to take. So without fur, durr or dew, here are is a list of awesome college courses you can take and my opinions on them.

1)At The University of Michigan

World-Wide Witchcraft: Witch-Belief & Witch-Hunting in Global Perspective
"Why did so many cultures, across several centuries and continents, work so hard to identify and kill so-called witches? This 100-level history class and freshman seminar encourages students to ask that question. It also looks at cultures and incidents where the persecution and killing of suspected witches still happens today."

my thoughts: ummm....O.O

2)At Columbia college in Chicago

Zombies in Popular media

"The flesh-eating undead are also the focus of a new course at the University of Baltimore titledMedia Genres: Zombies. The class' syllabus features such titles as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Patient Zero, and students will screen classic zombie horror films like George A. Romero's "Night of the Living Dead."

my thoughts: well..we're not really starting off very well here are we?

3)At the University of Maryland

The Science of Harry Potter

"In the Science of Harry Potter course, students analyze magic by applying concepts of physics, biology, chemistry and engineering, and they take a look at everything from the latest teleportation research ("apparating") to Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans and the science of taste. Physics professor George R. Plitnik says the class isn't all fun and games; however, he has been known to dress up as Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore."
My thoughts: Okay..I know there are some Potterheads out there. For you

4)At The University of South carolina
Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame
"As he observed Lady Gaga's rise to fame(A professor who was obviously obsessed with her.), Deflem become intrigued by what makes a person famous and what it means to be famous in today's society, and that's exactly what the class delves into — from a sociological perspective, of course"
my thoughts: you know, thinking about it, these classes dont appeal to me at all. that's it, im dropping out

School - phoebs

Hello Beauties!
Today on JOALLAP its me , phoebs! So I know a vague amount about american schools ( most from movies ha) so I thought I would tell you about english school .
You have a primary school ,which is age 4-11 . There is reception (4-5) , year 1 (5-6) , year 2 (6-7), year 3 (7-8 . You get the idea) , year 4, 5, and 6.
Now there is the private school system which is where the parents pay for you to go to school. This means the school has better features and smaller classes so better learning. To get into a senior private school you have to take an exam, which you begin revising for ( its only english and maths) in year 5.
Then there is the state system which you do not have to pay for. It is normally a bigger school with bigger classes and less snazzy features - but there can be just as good teachers , which os the main part of school. But if your from uk and you watch tv shows like educating yorkshire or waterloo road, state schools can look worse. But its only a tv show(:   Anyways with state senior schools you do not have to take an exam, but you can only go to a school near by to you. As in you could apply to a private school wherever, if you take the exam and get in you can go, but with state schools you can only go to a state school in your area. The government need to keep the schools even I suppose.

At senior school, the 1st big set of exams you take are GCSE'S. You take these in yr 11 (15-16 years old) . You have to take seven subjects at least (i think) which is english literature, english language, a modern language, three sciences and maths. Then at my school we choose 3 extra so we can choose history, geography, art, rs, music, latin etc.  We choose the subjects we do in year nine (13-14) and do coursework in year 10 and 11. Then we are graded on all the subjects by a*, a, b, c, d, e, f, and u. As you probably guessed, a* is the best, and u is unmarkable.

After GCSE'S , you can leave school and go to the big bad world. But if you choose not to, there is 6th form, lower 6th (16-17)and upper 6th(17-18). In lower 6th you choose four subjects to do and you take  the exams for them at the end of the year. Then in upper sixth you do 3 subjects and take the exams in them. 6 th form is different from school coz there is less subjects, more specific work and FREE PERIODS. also  you can wear home clothes at most.

After 6th form is uni, but I do not know much about that haha!

I hope you enjoyed this post, I was gonna do a funny one but this is very rushed and I didnt have time to plan! But I hope you liked the info.

School in Ireland!

Hey Everyone!

As you may or may not know, I'm Irish (allergic to leprechauns too) so obviously I go to school here too. As I have the day off today (Junior Cert results! I'll explain!) and have just finished like 5 hours of study, I thought I'd be irritated enough to talk about the Irish education system!

I'm not going to explain about primary school, as many of the readers of this blog are most likely to be in secondary school There's six years in secondary school, First Year, Second Year, Third Year, Transition Year (TY), Fifth Year and Sixth Year.

You start First Year when you're 12/13. In Third Year you do a state examination called the Junior Certificate. Everyone in the country in Third Year does the exact same exam. You study ten subjects, I personally studied Irish, English, Maths, History, Geography, Business Studies, Home Economics, German and CSPE. I received my Junior Results in September 2012 and studied all my subjects at Higher Level.

There's two levels to study your exams at, Honours/Higher and Ordinary/Pass. Honours is the highest level. There's also Transition Year, which is an optional year. Some choose to skip TY, I, on the other hand did TY last year. It's a non-academic year and really allowed me to mature and decide on my future career path. I entered several literary competitions and won some awards, I travelled all over the country, even to the UK to London! London was a simply surreal experience which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also started up my personal blog during TY!

This year however I'm in Fifth Year, the first year of the Leaving Cert cycle. The Leaving Cert(ificate) is composed of seven or more subjects you're examined in. Your grades add up as ''points''. Your grades and points decide what courses you can apply for and what colleges you can go to. The highest amount of points you can get is 625, 6 A1's at 100 points each and 25 bonus points for doing honours maths.

Fifth Year is the year where you do the majority of the work, I'm also studying all my subjects at honours level. Irish, English, Maths, Business, History, German and Agricultural Science. It's A LOT of work, maths in particular as I was never very good at the subject, especially now the syllabus has changed to Project Maths (Google it and leave me to cry over its flaws) Agricultural Science is the study of farms, animals and crops. I find it quite interesting and enjoy it. I adore business and history this year too.

Irish is very interesting this year. In class, my teacher barely speaks English, only Irish. As you may know, the majority of the population are not fluent in Irish. Tá mé abalta ag caint my cupla focal (I'm able to speak my few words) however I'm not fluent.

So I'll have exams at Christmas and at the end of this year. Next year I'll be starting Sixth Year *gulps and has a panic attack* and the following June I'll be sitting my Leaving Cert *panic attack and hyperventilates* and then college. It's scary how quickly time flies. I can still remember starting primary school and 9/11 happened that week. R.I.P to everyone who died in the attacks, (I'm writing this on Wednesday if you're wondering!)

So that's about all from me about the Irish education system!
Stay Strong, Happy and Fearless

School - Jamie

Hello friendables!
This week's theme is "School" as you can tell from my very uncreative title. So I have started my third term at school for about month now. And at school you have all your essentials like paper, stationary, new clothes (from the school uniform shop of course ugh private schools) and things I hate. Thus I will be talking about what I hate about things associated with school.

I hate it when:

1. People ask me for food.
I normally reply with "Aw hell naw! You go to a private school, you can afford your own food! And no, you may not have a gummy worm" *Stuffs face*

2. I get that feeling when you know you have school tomorrow.
Most of my Sunday nights are spent crying over the fact that I have to wake up at 7 in the morning. Pretty sure that not even roosters are up that early. Now you may ask me, why do you wake up so early? My reply: This face don't look this fabulous on it's own. Actually yes it does.

3. People have no sense of personal space - Girl! I can breathe my own air thankyou very much.

4. The school bus.
I get dropped off at school by my Mother dearest, but I catch it home. This means practically waiting for 5 hours waiting for it to arrive in the freezing cold - which by the way is nearly over. Thank baby Jesus. Once I'm on the bus, I strut my stuff and find a seat that isn't covered in garbage or sweat. Then when I need to get off the bus I have to explore my way through the sea of twelvies. This normally doesn't end well and I usually miss my stop.

5. Back to school ads.
No! Do not even try and make school look fun. You know it ain't!

6. The moment when you realise the terrible mistake you've made of coming to school.

7. Ending up with no stationary.
On the first day of school I've got everything, I'm practically a walking Kmart! I've got my pencils, my books a pencil case with stickers of my face all over it (jks jks). But by the end of term all I've got is a blunt pencil with no sharpener. Stop stealing my stuff people!

8. Lunch
Okay now don't get me wrong, I ain't hating on my best subject. But seriously lunch times? Either you get lunch that's breakfast or lunch that's served at 5 pm.

But it's okay because one day I will graduate. And It will be great. And I will laugh at the people still in school .. until I realise that there is still university.

If you guys have anything that you strongly dislike about school then comment them down below. I would love to know that I'm not the only one who likes to complain.
